Category: Let's talk
i was just on facebook and came across this group against facebook making it's users pay 4.99 a month as of June 30 2010. so, would you, or would you not pay for the use of facebook, if this comes in to effect?
simple, hell no I wouldn't pay. in saying that, though, I'd venture to guess that's just a scare tactic.
agreed with above poster.
it may be, but you never kno with facebook.
it could be a stemp kind of think. i haven't come across this message yet. but if facebook make me to pay, i simply won't use it. considering how many advertisement they have on their side, don't see why i need to pay in order for them to run
i wouldn't pay either. if! it does happen, and we do have to pay, then i'll just simply stop using it, even though it's a good way to keep in tuch with family and friends, i'm not paying for things i don't use, like games or thoes anoying aplications...like thoes ones where people send little gifts to each other.
Yeah, I would have to stop using facebook. And I think i'm already a member of this group that we are talking about.
Nobody is going to have to pay for facebook, but I do believe there should be an idiocy tax placed on life.
Facebook, like Myspace and every other social networking site, is not going to charge you for use. They make their profit from advertising to the million or so people that log into their site every hour.
If these sites were going to make you pay to use them, you would be directed to a large-scale, sitewide announcement about the plan long before it went into effect, just like the changes to terms of services and the newsfeed. Plus, if something this major were to happen, it would be on news networks. Remember, kids, you are on the internet and google is only one click away. Don't be afraid to double-check your sources before you assume something is true.
No way would I pay. as already said, it's probably a scam anyway; there's been so many of them on FB over the years!
I certainly wouldn't pay, there'll be another social site that takes over if Facebook fails, used to be all MySpace, thenn all FaceBook, now Twitter is coming up strong, there's other sites if necessary.
I think one should be allowed to pay something like $5 a month for getting rid of ads and perhaps keep $5 to $10 in a Facebook account and pay 20 cents or 50 cents or whatever to send a pillow fight request or virtual gift etc, it'd cut down on the dumb games that nobody likes (at least I have a lot of sighted FaceBook user friends and I have never heard anyone be other than annoyed at virtual hugs, family trees or pillow fight requests).
That might work out kinda nicely.
There are lots of groups out there like that. remember the facebook will shut down in 7 days group? I think these groups are started out by some user who likes to get reactions. Facebook could charge for an add-free site, but I don't see them only charging for use of the site. The adds are not really in my way, so they don't bother me much.
If I had to pay of course not... Why should I have to pay to talk to anyone. Why don't I just use something else. I believe sites are some what of a private property, but you don't ask people to pay to come to your house, do you? I look at the internet as a free web country where activities are voluntary. No one should limit anyone and no one should be stupid enough to ask someone to come to pay to go to their site.
Post #8: Very well put. Couldn't have said it better myself.
Right, so in summary, we've established the following:
1. No-one is gonna pay to use Facebook.
2. Facebook would lose practically all of it's users if it introduced something like this (me included). So they'd be complete idiots if they charged for the service.
3. With other social networking sites like twitter growing rather rapidly, people would simply go to those sites instead of facebook.
4. Whoever creates these stupid groups either doesn't have anything better to do, doesn't have a life, simply likes watching people's reactions, likes watching their groups get well over a million members, or a combination of all of that.
5. There has been no formal announcement from facebook regarding this, so until there is, this whole thing is a load of crap in my opinion.
There, i'm done; might as well lock this topic now, lol!
Well, the Professional has spoken, so of course I'll lock the topic. *Sarcastic face* Do you really think you're the end all be all of posters, Rob? Geez!
And, Miss M, very well said indeed. Glad you put it in a way most people will understand. *Grin*
prefeshonal, this topic isn't doing anything against the tos, so it doesn't need to be locked. if you don't want to add to it, then go away and don't bother. this was just something that got me thinking when i saw one of my friends had joind this group. i'm not an idiot, and i do kno that most of these groups are just out for a reaction, (wich is why i don't join them), so i just thought i'd get other people's thoughts. i still wouldn't use it if i had to pay for it, but facebook have advertisers and big companies to back them, so they don't really need our money. i think that the worst they'll do is just keep changing the layout, and confuse our screen readers even more. :)
Social networking sites are morphing so to speak into one bigt happy shlosh due to parent companies merging, or being taken over, so it is possible one day a fee could be charged for some services, but I doubt this due to the great amount of advertising dollars that is put in to these things and the amount of products sold, so no worry, but I'd bet some of you that say you'll not pay would pay for premium services if offered.
I certainly would not pay if it ever came to that with Facebook. They used to be a nice, accessible site, but not so much anymore. They're even managing to screw up the mobile version of the site, which is what works best with screen readers. Only way I'd even halfway consider paying is if they cleaned up their accessibility act, so to speak. But as others have already stated, and I agree with, it won't come to that.
Liz, of course there is no way I'd lock this topic. I was simply giving the Professional crap for his atempted authority.
ah yes, I can't believe they changed the mobile site; I loooved that layout. :(
Well said, Miss M. LOL
I don't see anything wrong with paying for an ad free site like previously mentioned, or something where you would probably get some sort of advanced features, but definitely see no reason to pay for facebook the way it is now, definitely not.
I enjoy the use of facebook, but don't see a way to justify spending sixty dollars a year. If I have an urgent need to speak with someone, I can always pick up the phone.
Well I don't use it at all, so I suppose a look see is advised? Lol. Okay sister Dawn lock this topic. I want to be last. Lol
